Saturday 14th November – Today’s Racing Selections

It’s day 2 of the Cheltenham November Meeting and there is some competitive racing today. There is rain forecast at most tracks today, so keep an eye on the ground conditions before backing any horses today.

Here are today’s racing selections

CHELTENHAM

Simply The Betts (2.15) @

This 7 year old has really been a flag bearer for trainer Harry Whittington, and his form has been very consistent culminating in a Cheltenham Festival win in the Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate on his final run last season.

He battled back well on that occasion to get the better of Happy Diva after being headed at the final flight, so he clearly has the right attitude. He goes well on soft ground, so any further rain won’t bother him either. He has beat some nice horses including the very well regarded Imperial Aura previously.

Whatsupwithyou (3.25) @

This 6 year old won on his hurdling debut for Ben Pauling at Ascot over 2m 5f on heavy ground, and then ran some decent races after that. The stable haven’t started the new season strongly, but they have started to come back in to form recently.

Trainer Ben Pauling has had a slow start to the new season, but his horses have started to come back in to form recently. I like the chances of Whatsupwithyou (above) today

I’m therefore happy to draw a line through his latest under par effort here in October due to the stable being out of form at the time. I am a big fan of young jockey Luca Morgan – who rides today – and I think he is great value for his 7lb claim.

PUNCHESTOWN

Salsaretta (12.50) @

Trainer Willie Mullins runs 7 horses in this race, which clearly gives him a very good chance of winning it. I fancy Salsaretta here, who looks like the stable’s 2nd string behind the hard to predict Tornado Flyer.

She is unbeaten in 4 runs over fences so far, and she is also a dual course winner which shows she likes this track. She likes soft ground too, so today’s ground conditions should be ideal for her.
