Saturday 22nd February

It’s Saturday again, and it’s nice to not have to deal with a storm this weekend! It’s a shame that Newcastle has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track, but there is a good card at Kempton to focus on. I have found 3 horses that I like at Kempton today, good luck!

Here are today’s racing selections

KEMPTON

Commanche Red (1.15) @ 2/1

Chris Gordon’s 7 year old beat some well regarded horses LTO over today’s C&D on Boxing Day, and the 2nd and 3rd from that day have gone on to win subsequently so the form is solid. His trainer thinks he will be even better on quicker ground, but he showed he handles softer ground LTO.

I like Master Tommytucker – who is held in high regard by his yard – but his jumping is a worry for me. If he completes without mishap, he can be a threat to this gelding today.

Highway One O Two (3.02) @ 4/1

This gelding is another from the Chris Gordon stable, and his trainer says that he has been transformed since he has been sent over hurdles. His trainer says it has made him concentrate more, and that has been a big benefit to him.

Chris Gordon trains both Commanche Red and Highway One O Two (above), and I think the trainer can have a good day at Kempton today

He has won both his runs over hurdles – both at Plumpton – so far, and he steps up in class to a Class 1 Grade 2 Hurdle here, but I think he can show he belongs at this level today.

Mystical Clouds (4.10) @ 7/1

Alan King’s yard have started to come back in to form recently after a quiet spell, and they are represented here by this 7 year old son of Cloudings. His trainer says that he is best suited by good ground, so he has ran with real credit on unsuitable ground on his last 2 runs (44).

The form of his last run has been boosted since with Cap Du Nord (3rd) winning NTO, and I think the ground will dry out a bit throughout the day, which will only help this gelding’s chances. This 7 year old looks a good value bet to me in an open looking race.
