Saturday 24th October – Today’s Racing Selections

It’s that awkward time of the season for finding winners where the flat season is drawing to a close, and the new jumps season is starting to pick up pace. I have found 3 horses that I like the chances of today, good luck!

Here are today’s racing selections

CHELTENHAM

Pileon ( 2.40) @ 3/1

Trainer Philip Hobbs rates this 6 year old son of top stayer Yeats highly, and his record in a bumper and over hurdles is very good with form figures of 14112.

The last of those runs was a fantastic effort at last season’s Cheltenham Festival when he was caught close home in the Class 2 Martin Pipe, going down by just a short head to the progressive Indefatigable. He makes his chasing debut today, and I’m hopeful that he will take well to fences.

Poppa Poutine (4.25) @ 6/1

This 4 year old was bought at the February Cheltenham sales for £100,000 after just 1 run in an Irish PTP and he has joined trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.

Nigel Twiston-Davies trains ex Irish PTP Poppa Poutine (above), and I think the gelding will benefit from a step up in trip today

He made a promising debut over hurdles for his new connections at Perth where he finished 3rd over 2m on good to soft ground. 1 of his main attributes looks to be his stamina, so this step up in trip to 2m 7f looks sure to suit.

KELSO

Rocky’s Treasure (2.35) @ 5/1

This 9 year old gelding needs to go left handed, and he is best on good ground. He doesn’t like soft ground, so I’m happy to draw a line through his last 2 runs on account of unsuitable ground conditions.

He likes to race prominently, and his jumping is 1 of his best assets. His trainer and jockey combination of Kim Bailey and David Bass are in fine form, and it is interesting that the jockey chooses to come all this way north instead of riding at Cheltenham.
