Kelso Races

Saturday 29th February

The weather is having an impact again this weekend with the abandonment of Newbury and Navan, but there are still 2 good cards at Doncaster and Kelso. The conditions will be testing, so you will need a horse that is suited to that type of ground. I have found 3 horses that I fancy today, good luck!

Here are today’s racing selections

DONCASTER

Blackjack Kentucky (1.50) @ 9/4

Paul Nicholls has really hit form recently, and he is represented by this 7 year old son of Oscar here. I have followed this horse’s progress since I first saw him run an eyecatching race at Chepstow on his 2nd run for his new yard, when he finished strongly to take 3rd place.

He is best suited by today’s testing ground conditions – which is a big plus – and the stable’s number 1 jockey Harry Cobden is onboard. He was already booked to ride at Doncaster before Newbury was abandoned, so that tells me that the yard’s best chances are at Doncaster today, including this gelding.

KELSO

Moabit (2.12) @ 7/2

This gelding is another that represents the in form Paul Nicholls yard, and he clearly needed the run LTO at PLumpton when he returned from over a year off. He tired late on that day, and he can come on a lot for that run here today.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has really hit form recently, and he trains Blackjack Kentucky and Moabit (above). I fancy both horses to run big races today at Newbury and Kelso respectively

He acts well on testing ground which is a positive, and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies is a really good jockey booking in my opinion. He has won at Class 3 level over hurdles previously, and if he can return to that level of form, he can take this race with ease. There is the obvious bounce factor to consider too though.

Ask The Weatherman (5.07) @ 7/4

This 11 year old made all LTO at Plumpton to win well on heavy ground, and he battled well when challenged at the last that day, which is a good sign. That race was over 3m 1f, so he will have no issue staying today’s 2m 7f trip either.

Jockey Rex Dingle comes all the way up here for 1 ride on this gelding, and that is a big pointer regarding his chances today in my opinion. The opposition don’t look anything special to me today, and I think this 11 year old can defy a 5lb rise and win this race.
