The ground conditions are a key part of any bet that I have. The fact is that some horses don’t like / act on certain types of ground, and will therefore not run to their full potential on ground that doesn’t suit them.
A good way to gauge if a horse will act on a certain type of ground is to look at their breeding. If their sire handled certain types of ground, there is a good chance that their progeny will do as well.
Here is a list of the preferred ground conditions for some main sires that I have compiled over the years:
Dark Angel – Handles most ground, but prefers an easier surface
Jeremy – Act well on soft (Mud lovers)
Lope De Vega
No Nay Never
Pivotal – Like soft and heavy ground (Revel in the mud)
Sea The Stars – Handle soft ground well, and also like good ground
Sharmadal – Tends to handle most types of ground
Exceed And Excel
Paco Boy – Goes well on quicker ground, hates soft ground
